ASI 68 Discover 2023's Game-Changing Art Supplies: From Metallic Gel Stains to Plastic-Free Packaging and Beyond

Welcome back to Art Supply Insiders. My name is Jeff Morrow and today we're going to do something just a little bit different. We're going to be looking at what new products are out there, 2023. Let's get started. Electric Products LLC has brought out a new product called Unicorn Spit Metallic. Now, unicorn Spit vibrantly colored metallic gel stains allow you to easily create unparalleled, rich, luminous finishes on furniture, home decor, fabric and craft projects. From Crafters Companion, we have something called Colorista. The Colorista range includes art markers with translucent alcohol ink It's really perfect for layering and blending colored pencils with high quality wax-based pigment that can be layered and blended. And watercolor markers to create painterly watercolor work, glitter markers, paint markers There's a whole new line of Colorista colors from Crafters Companion Pinnacle colors that's the name of the manufacturer has brought out what they call a Knicker poster color. The Knicker poster colors are high quality paints with densely pigmented, gouache-like texture. They're used to make things like manga and they're also perfect for dip pen, calligraphy, brush lettering and many types of painting. They're wow. They're over 77 colors in this entire set. So that comes from Pinnacle colors.

This one's from the Airbrush Institute. Now last year you may have heard us do an interview with the Airbrush Institute where they brought out Airbrushing 101. They followed up that incredible book with Airbrushing 102, and this is one of those kinds of books where you can literally go page by page and they show you that all the basic skills that you need to, with 50 different exercises to master airbrushing. And Airbrushing 102 kind of picks up where 101 left off and begins by merging art theory lessons with the progressive airbrushing projects to bring new artistic proficiency. There are 16 beautiful projects and three final projects. That's going to really help you take your airbrushing to the next level. So if you haven't tried Airbrushing 101 from the Airbrush Institute, go out, get that book, and this is the perfect companion to that.

There's a company called Altenew A-L-T-E-N-E-W and they're introducing a stamp wheel which is the ultimate for crafters who want a quick, clever and efficient way of stamping. It's got an innovative flippable clear plate design. The stamping tool allows for a seamless layering of stamps, creating beautiful and intricate designs with ease. Use it to make stunning wreaths, mirror stamps and even stabilize stencils for perfect placement every time. So that would come from Altenew New Wave Art Now New Wave Art. You will have heard us interview them probably a year or so ago, and then we talked to them very briefly when we were at the NAMTA Convention.

And New Wave Art has brought out something that's called Ugo Wet Panel Carriers, and what this is is if you've gone to a class and you've done some artwork and you've got to hop on a plane or you've got to hop in your car and you really need to find a way to be able to carry that. That's what this is for. They say it's for the artist searching for a durable wet panel carrier that also provides the flexibility to hold multiple-sized panels. There are two sizes available. When Dave and I would go out and do our brush guys especially at the show in Las Vegas there would be hundreds of artists that had wet canvases and wet work and they were constantly looking for ways to go out and be able to carry that stuff home. So take a look at New Wave Art with the Ugo Wet Panel Carriers. Looks like Faber Castell has what they call a gold Farber sketch marker And it's got dual nibs. It's got a soft, flexible brush nib on one side and it's got a metal enclosed fine liner tip on the other. This is an alcohol based dye and the ink drives quickly and does not smudge, and layers for the ink for 3D effects or to achieve opacity. They're made from 100% recycled plastic, so it's like a really cool new product.

The manuscript pen company. The manuscript pen company has got manuscript plastic free packaging. It looks like they've redone all of their packaging for most of their best selling calligraphy and stationery lines, so the new packaging no longer uses single use plastic clams. Instead they use 100% recycled board. So this looks like a company that's really gone out there.

And for those of you that are really looking for products that help our planet and are really focused on sustainability, look at the manuscript pen company Limited. This is a company that we really enjoy We've talked with them before and that's called Resin Rockers, and Resin Rockers has got what they call a magic cure LED lamp, and this LED lamp is a fully customizable cure for all Resin Rockers. Uv resin formulas. Artists can achieve a 360 non-tacky cure with features such as adjustable wattage timer height, all given 100% control to the artist. This is a really great company and their products are wonderful, and this is something that you really need to see to believe. So, if you'll go to the Resin Rockers site, a really cool new product, here's a company called Odeer and Artful and that's OHH, deer and Artful And Artful is a clay and it's basically an art school in a box, with each box featuring all the materials you need to learn that particular medium, including a full hundred page magazine that's full of tutorials and artist interviews. This box looks a clay and includes all the tools that you're going to need to get yourself set up. So this was the winner of the best packaging at Creativation in 2023. And that company is O, and that's OHH, deer and Artful.

Here's another manufacturer that we talked with at NAMTA and it's called Grex Airbrush and that's GREX. You're going to know who these guys are by the color of their product, and it's a lime green. It's absolutely beautiful, and they have the Grex Micro Spray Gun Set, and the set is the ultimate gun for fine, detailed spraying. It's a spray gun and airbrush hybrid that lets you reach into the tightest areas for a perfect finish, precision spraying. Spot repairs and touch ups are quick and easy with minimal overspray. This gun is something that we actually saw working at NAMTA, and this looks to be a step up from an awful lot of the things that I already see out there. So if you want to see something a little bit different, something that's a little bit modern, take a look at Grex. Grex Airbrush Looks like. This company is Graphics G-R-A-F-I-X. They have Durabright and Kraft Plastic in new sizes and styles. So Graphics has extended their range of sizes and selection for both Durabright and Kraft Plastic. So take a look at those. There are additional pads and roll sizes and some new styles that are available.

Hk Holbein. Holbein is a company that we've known for a long time and a really high, high quality product. Holbein has come out, and that's H-O-L-B-E-I-N, and Holbein has come out with a watercolor palette with removable pans, so you can now range your colors by season, theme or by subject matter by simply removing the pans to add in new or different colors or to simply reorganize your pans by color or preference, and it's available in two sizes. So this looks like a step up from many of the products that are already out there on the market and this will allow you to customize your colors. So take a look at it from HK Holbein H-O-L-B-E-I-N.

This company is global creative. We saw global creative again at the NAMTA show and they have what's called an OLO marker. It's O-L-O marker. Artists love to feel the consistent, smooth ink flow from Japanese nib to paper and the extensive ink capacity. The patented design delivers performance and value. The ingenuity of OLO allows retail stores to offer a wide variety of 8 or 16 complementary colors. In our compact 4 or 8 piece marker set, we saw the OLO markers, and OLO markers allow you to customize your markers, where you can have a double end marker but you get to choose what type of nib you would like. That was really really cool feature. They also came out with deco gels from Karen Marker and it's a collection of 50 gel pens for decoration, drawing calligraphy and divided into color series called the Milky Way, metallic and Star Sparks. They work perfectly on light and dark paper surfaces, as well as papers covered with watercolor paints, water based markers and many other surfaces such as glass, foil, metal, stone colored with acrylic paints and markers with acrylic paints So really cool looking markers from global creative.

Now here's a company that everybody knows, and this is from the Bob Ross company, and it seems that Bob Ross has brought out a new mop brush. It's specifically designed for soft, flowing and scrumptious strokes inherent to the Bob Ross wet on wet technique for flower painting. It's a 5-8 inch wide and approximately 9 inches long, and gives you the perfect opportunity for soft touch and versatile blending for floral paintings. So this looks like it's a brand new brush that you probably want to add to your current Bob Ross paint brushes. And they've also brought out what they call the new Bob Ross Grab and Go floral painting kits, and these are painting kits. Make a floral streamlined fondant easy. All of the things that you need to do these wonderful paintings are in a box, and so it looks like there are three different kits, and so it's called the Bob Ross Grab and Go floral painting kits.

From the Bob Ross company P13 paper products, they brought out something called Precious Scrapbooking Collection. Precious is one of the newest scrapbooking collections by P13 paper products. New gemstone patterns, beautiful flowers, soft colors make it perfect for all your scrapbooking creations. Precious is the first collection including dedicated album base with coordinated paper shapes, and that's from P13 paper products. The next company is Royal Talons and that's T-A-L-E-N-S and it's the Talons Pantone Collection, and they're announcing a comprehensive new range of markers, inks and papers developed in partnership between Royal Talons and Pantone. Oh, that's great, which means that these products have the official match to Pantone color matching system. It's just great news for anybody that needs to make color critical decisions in their work. The collection includes a wide variety of products, including refillable markers with brush and chisel nibs sets, paper pads and ink markers. The colors are pigment based and light fast, so they will remain bright and vibrant over time. This sounds like a really cool collection. The collection includes 108 markers, 24 sets, four paper pads and 108 marker inks and, by the way, the paper is smooth, white, 80 gram acid-free drawing paper. So if you're looking for something that will be compatible with your Pantone collection, check this out from Royal Talons.

This is from Ampersand Art Supply. Ampersand. Amper-sand is offering a new duo frame that provides the ultimate versatility for framing your artwork. This innovative frame offers options for displaying artwork from back or mounting to the front for a modern floating effect. This unique feature provides excellent flexibility for artists to showcase their work in a classic or a contemporary style. Now it looks like we've got a couple of cool things here from DecoArt D-E-C-O-A-R-T, and the first one is DecoArt Translucent Glass Paint. The DecoArt Translucent Glass Paint creates the beautiful look of translucent stained glass, transforms ordinary frame glass, simple glassware, bottles and ornaments. Any glass or porcelain surface can become a stunning work of art. It's fully insurmixable, it's permanent and it's hand washed safe. So this is also water-based for easy use and cleanup, and this looks like a really cool product. They've also brought out DecoArt Thrift Flip Upcycling Acrylics, and this one, they say, easily turn trash into treasure or personal. Wood, glass, metal, paper mache or more. The water-based staining ammo needs no sealing and heartens to a durable, even dishwasher safe finish. The Thrift Flip Textiles are perfect for upcycling wearables like denim, jackets and jeans, t-shirts, dresses and more. So it looks you can do a lot of things. Even you can paint home decor pieces like pillows, chairs, covers, drapes. Check out DecoArt Thrift Flip Upcycling Acrylics.

Here's something that's really cool looking It's. The company is Etchcom Inc and that's Etchcom ink, and what this is is a sand carving or a sandblasting set. It includes all of the essential materials and equipment needed to learn how to practice the magic art of sand carving in your home, workshop, garage, studio or outdoors. You can create your own designs, print your own stencils, engrave your own products for any and all occasions. The kit is equipped with an arrow sketch sandblaster specifically designed to achieve superior quality engraving results on glass and crystal Gosh. It works on glass, wood, metal, stone, ceramics, on both flat and curved surfaces. It's lightweight, easy to use, it's portable and designed to be used with a 12 ounce aerosol propellant. Wow, this is a really cool looking product. So if you want to see more of this, go to etchcom ink.

This company is Smoothon ink, chavant ink. These are two companies that come out with one product And we saw them at NAMTA and boy was their booth so cool looking. I mean, we saw masks that you can make. We saw clay that you can do. What an incredible company.

And they've just brought out Maker Pro paints. And Maker Pro paints are industrial grade scenic design paints designed for rigorous themed environment applications at amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, etc. Where outdoor durability is critical, and I guess that's the thing is. If you have something that you're going to be painting for the outdoors, this sounds like the perfect product. Properly applied, paints are highly abrasive, scratch resistant, uv light, fast and weather resistant. So they also bond wood, fiberglass, aluminum, concrete plasters, steel and many other substrates. So you can use this by applying it by the brush, the roller, or you can even spray it with an air brush, air gun excuse me, an air brush spray gun or touch up gun. That's the Maker Pro paints.

And the next one here, from the same company, which is Smooth-On Ink and Chavond Ink, is called Alien Clay. I love the name Alien Clay. Alien Clay is a precision sculpting medium used for a variety of sculpting and fabrication applications. It is one of the most versatile clays available sculpt brush on, trowel on or pour, allowing for quick build up and sculpting perfect detail. Used for sculpting finely detailed miniatures or life side projects, movie special effects, to create monsters, props, spaceships and other models, medical models, cosplay and more. The Alien Clay heat resistant container is specifically designed for storing, melting and pouring the clay. It has a convenient snap secure lid, two hand holds and pour spout that allow you to pour liquefied clay directly from the container. What a cool looking product. Make sure that you go out and check out Smooth-On Ink, aunt Ink, and that's either the Maker Pro paints or Alien Clay.

This next company is from Gregory Daniels Fine Arts And this is a brush line that has been around for a while. It's a very good line of brushes called Da Vinci, and they have brought out a new Da Vinci Collino synthetic Kalinsky. So this is a synthetic Kalinsky creating a mixture of synthetic fibers very similar to its natural ideal A carefully balanced mixture of different lengths of straight and wavy synthetic fibers with extra fine tips and tapered points, high elasticity and color absorption. There are a number of new sizes here, in rounds a watercolor brush, a slanted edge, a sword shape. So if you want to check out something that is almost the same as the natural Kalinsky, you need to check out the new Da Vinci Collino synthetic Kalinsky.

Our friends at Arteza ARTEZA have a couple of new things. Arteza skateboard wall art set Art and skateboard decks go hand in hand, so what better way to illustrate your passion and creativity than to showcase a custom skate deck on your wall? It looks like this will be coming out in the fall of 2023. The product number on this particular item is ARTZ-4881, and the Arteza skateboard wall art set, which also should be coming out this fall. The product number for that is ARTZ-4487.

Zebrapen has brought out a midliner double-ended creative highlighter gentle color collection. Oh, that's interesting. Five new colors in the beloved midliner double-ended creative highlighter range, available in sets and open stock, brings the entire midliner double-ended creative highlighter range to 35 colors. Things like mild honey orange, mild sherbert yellow, mid soda blue, mid lilac, mild baby pink. Wow, some very cool colors in here. So these are from our friends at ZebraPen.

Pebio Inc, that's P-E-B-E-O, has brought out a product That's cool. I'm looking at the picture here and I see some painting on a sneaker. So it's called Setticolor Leather The performance of Pebio's renowned Setticolor paints, now available for leather. All colors of these high quality fluid paints are guaranteed to have a uniform opacity throughout the range and great resistance on all types of leather. Best of all, the range is completed with the extra fine-tipped markers for precision work and numerous practical purposes. Wow, this is a really cool looking thing, setticolor Leather from Pebio. And then they have a product called ColorX markers, and these are new rechargeable watercolor ink markers that feature an innovative refill system which allow you to quickly fill up markers directly from a ColorX bottle. The markers also include a versatile double-ended brush tip flipped to get more use out of the tip to apply the vibrantly colored transparent inks with precision, ideal for illustrating and calligraphy. So these are brought to you from our friends at Pebio P-E-B-E-O. Oh, this is cool looking.

This comes from Jacquard Products and that's J-A-C-Q-U-A-R-D. They have what's called the Luminaire Planetary Collection. The new colors, along with super sparkle, are highly reflective and iridescent. Have you witnessed the green mist of mercury or the violet blush of Saturn's rings? These offer a dark, backdrop-like space which emphasizes their iridescence. The Jacquard Refillable and Durable Luminaire Formula I'm going to get you there And the work on all sorts of cool dark backgrounds. So you really have to see this to believe it. Go to the Jacquard website and look at their Luminaire Planetary Collection.

They've also added some new fluorescent acid dyes to their most popular line of dyes for wool, nylon and silk, and these are the brightest dyes for protein fibers that exist. The eye-popping colors will make your wool look like it came from a psychedelic sheep. Next are truce and hot fuchsia our old friends and new packaging to let people know these colors glow under a black light. Oh, that's interesting. They're also adding fluorescent yellow, red orange and black light blue to the roster. Black light blue is especially unique. Past baby blue and normal light and subdued color blazes under a black light. That's really cool. So make sure you go to Jacquard Products to take a look at both of these really cool new products Yossitomo, and that's Y-A-S-U-T-O-M-O.

They brought out a Bokuju and Suzujuri stone sumi sets. Where did I butcher that one, huh? So that's Bokuju and Suzujuri stone sumi sets. These are two brand new sets and they both contain two sumi brushes, one sumi ink stick and one sumi or Suzurri stone in a beautiful paper box. It includes an illustrated instruction sheet on how to achieve a classic sumi bamboo painting. Complete the QR code to VO instructions on how to grind ink and to paint bamboo. You need to check out both of these new products if you've ever wanted to do any of this kind of bamboo painting.

Yossitomo also has brought out fusion brushes. This is a classical Asian appearance but with a Western performance capabilities. Yossitomo fusion brushes combine features of Eastern and Western styles to give you versatile painting tool with excellent value. Tackle-on fiber bristles hold a fine point for detailed strokes. Brush tips are responsive and springy for control painting experience, perfect for watercolor and lettering. Dark synthetic bamboo handles are easy to clean and they crack, and they come in five different styles. So make sure you check out from Yossitomo Y-A-S-U-T-O-M-O. Both of these fine new products.

Here's an interesting one. This is from a company called Abroly A-B-R-O-L-I And this is paint on wood by numbers. So this is just the old paint by number set, but this is done on a looks like a wooden canvas. So let's see what it says. It's reinvented the paint by numbers category by inventing a brand new, never before available process of printing paint by number spaces on a beautiful wood canvas made of the finest cuts of European ash tree, allowing your customers to create beautifully realized images on wood that they'll be happy to hang in their home anywhere. What a cool thing that is paint by numbers on wood by A-B-R-O-L-I.

Now, this product here is from a company called Kati-Sue Designs, and that's K-T-Y a new word, sue And it's Kati-Sue Feathers, mold and Veneer, and with this product you can create beautiful and highly detailed feathers every time using this food grade feathers, silicone, mold and veneer You can use with air drying clay, polymer clay, resin, hot glue, cold porcelain, wax, soap, fondant, marzipan and chocolate. In this set there are three different designs There's a feathery curl, there's a straight quill and a large textured plume. Wow, you can do an awful lot with this. If you're looking to create your own feathers out of a mold And this is by Kati K-A-T-Y Sue Designs, and for those of you out there that are into doing quilled cards, kati-sue Designs also offers a miniature sentiments paper quilling card making set. It features a mixed pack of quilling strips, eight printed and die cut sentiment discs and eight aperture cards with envelopes, plus colorful inserts to display your miniature artwork. Also included is a comprehensive full color instruction booklet plus online access for how-to videos for quilling techniques shown in the kit. The instructions are very easy to follow and all you have to do is follow along and watch your paper quilled art come to life. Now the cool part about this this is a product that will appeal to both beginners and experienced quillers also. Ito A-I-T-O-H good friends of ours, has introduced a new Narishuma excuse me, narishuma washi papers, introducing their newest source for fine paper. Narishuma washi is a generations old paper making facility in Maki, japan, unique in the way that they make paper and completely by hand from plant to sheet. These two papers are gorgeous and they're 100% kozo, with one with pulp filtered and one with flex Really cool looking paper. Check it out from Ito A-I-T-O-H. The next manufacturer is Sizzix S-I-Z-I-X, and Sizzix has the Sizzix making tool scoring board and trimmer. Whether it be creating a personalized card and it's matching an envelope to the perfectly sized box for that gift that's impossible to wrap, or decorative items such as banners, bows and rosettes, it's now possible with the scoring board and trimmer.
